December 13th, 2005

Dear Sirs,

I am very happy to apply for the position of secretary, which you advertised in China Daily of December 10, 2005.

I have been working as a secretary at a college office. Because I am the only secretary in the office, it is necessary for me to work quickly and efficiently and to be flexible in my daily work. Professors value my work and my ability to meet their needs.

Although I am happy now, I feel that my promotion (晋升) is limited here, and I would like to have a more challenging job. Therefore, I enrolled (参加) in a program to expand my knowledge of international business affairs. Now, both my English and Chinese have been improved and I am ready to begin working as a bilingual secretary in an international company like yours, and I believe I can be a great help to your firm.

The enclosed resume gives further details of my qualifications, and I would appreciate it if you could give me an opportunity to have an interview. I am looking forward to receiving your call at 62428866 or please use the enclosed pre-paid postcard to send me your reply.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Faithfully Yours,

Mary Lee

lieve how inefficient they are! But they've got reasonable prices. The next time I buy a sofa I'd be prepared to pay double to avoid all this stress. They came to deliver it, and when I saw it I thought this isn't the sofa I chose, maybe the colour looks different in daylight. But it was mine. And then I realised that part of the cover at the back was torn and the filling was coming out. So I got them to take it away and now I have to wait two weeks to get it replaced.

You hear a man talking about a sofa he bought. What is he complaining about?

A.He received the wrong sofa.

B.The shop overcharged him for the sofa.

C.The sofa was damaged.

es they print. I can't open a newspaper or magazine without reading stories full of false information about myself or people I know. It's get ting...

M: Sorry, but I can't believe that you're actually complaining about free publicity. I mean I remember, Shelley, before you were famous, you were begging us to write features about you...anything...

W: If you would just let me finish of course the press have been important. I'm an actress and I understand the power of the press. But the thing is, I rarely seem to read anything true about myself these days... The point I'm trying to make here is that famous people have families with feelings.

M: Oh, sorry. You're really hurt by that particular article last week.

W: To increase circulation and make more money, certain newspapers continue to print those stories when it's obvious that they're not true.

M: But I think we have to consider the relationship between fame, the public and the press. The public are fascinated by fame and scandal, and they love to read about their favorite stars.

W: I'm sick of gutter-press making up stories. It's irresponsible and it messes up people's life.

M: The problem is, it's not always clear what's true and what isn't. I mean, if a newspaper prints something scandalous or embarrassing about a famous person, they're bound to deny it, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

W: Are you trying to say...

M: No smoke without fire, if you ask me.

You are the audit supervisor of Seagull & Co and are currently planning the audit of y
our existing client, Eagle Heating Co (Eagle), for the year ending 31 December 2014. Eagle manufactures and sells heating and plumbing equipment to a number of home improvement stores across the country.

Eagle has experienced increased competition and as a result, in order to maintain its current levels of sales, it has decreased the selling price of its products significantly since September 2014. The finance director has informed your audit manager that he expects increased inventory levels at the year end. He also notified your manager that one of Eagle’s key customers has been experiencing financial difficulties. Therefore, Eagle has agreed that the customer can take a six-month payment break, after which payments will continue as normal. The finance director does not believe that any allowance is required against this receivable.

In October 2014 the financial controller of Eagle was dismissed. He had been employed by the company for over 20 years, and he has threatened to sue the company for unfair dismissal. The role of financial controller has not yet been filled and so his tasks have been shared between the existing finance department team. In addition, the purchase ledger supervisor left in August and a replacement has been appointed in the last week. However, for this period no supplier statement reconciliations or purchase ledger control account reconciliations were performed.

You have undertaken a preliminary analytical review of the draft year to date statement of profit or loss, and you are surprised to see a significant fall in administration expenses.

Required:

Explain FIVE audit risks, and the auditor’s response to each risk, in planning the audit of Eagle Heating Co.

"The language of a composer", Cardus wrote, "his harmonies, rhythms, melodies, colors and
texture, cannot be separated except by pedantic analysis from the mind and sensibility of the artist who happens to be expressing himself through them".

But that is precisely the trouble; for as far as I can see, Mozart's can. Mozart makes me begin to see ghosts, or at the very least ouija-boards. If you read Beethoven's letters, you feel that you are at the heart of a tempest, a whirlwind, a furnace; and so you should, because you are. If you read Wagner's, you feel that you have been run over by a tank, and that, too, is an appropriate response.

But if you read Mozart's—and he was a hugely prolific letter-writer—you have no clue at all to the power that drove him and the music it squeezed out of him in such profusion that death alone could stop it; they reveal nothing—nothing that explains it. Of course it is absurd(though the mistake is frequently made)to seek external causes for particular works of music; but with Mozart it is also absurd, or at any rate useless, to seek for internal ones either. Mozart was an instrument. But who was playing it?

That is what I mean by the Mozart Problem and the anxiety it causes me. In all art, in anything, there is nothing like the perfection of Mozart, nothing to compare with the range of feeling he explores, nothing to equal the contrast between the simplicity of the materials and the complexity and effect of his use of them. The piano concertos themselves exhibit these truths at their most intense; he was a greater master of this form. than of the symphony itself, and to hear every one of them, in the astounding abundance of genius they provide, played as I have so recently heard them played, is to be brought face to face with a mystery which, if we could solve it, would solve the mystery of life itself.

We can see Mozart, from infant prodigy to unmarked grave. We know what he did, what he wrote, what he felt, whom he loved, where he went, what he died of. We pile up such knowledge as a child does bricks; and then we hear the little tripping rondo tune of the last concerto—and the bricks collapse; all our knowledge is useless to explain a single bar of it. It is almost enough to make me believe in — but I have run out of space, and don't have to say it. Put K. 595 on the gramophone and say it for me.

According to Paragraph 1, Cardus observed that ______ .

A.a composer can separate his language and harmonies from his own mind and sensibility

B.a composer can separate his language and harmonies from the mind and sensibility of an artist

C.some people can separate the language and harmonies of a composer from his mind and sensibility

D.the language, harmonies, rhythms, melodies, colors and texture of a composer cannot be separated from each other

Sleep is a funny thing. We're taught that we should get seven or eight hours a night, but
a lot of us get by just fine on less, and some of us actually sleep too much. A study out of the University of Buffalo reported that people who routinely sleep more than eight hours a day and are still tired are nearly three times as likely to die of stroke--probably as a result of an underlying disorder that keeps them from sleeping soundly.

Doctors have their own special sleep problems. Residents are famously short of sleep. It is not unusual for. them to work 40 hours in a row without rest. They are not in the least worried about it, confident they can still deliver the highest quality of medical care. But an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association points out that in the morning after 24 hours of sleeplessness, a person' s motor performance is comparable to that of someone who is drunk. Curiously, surgeons who believe that operating under the influence of alcohol is grounds for sacking often don' t think twice about operating without enough sleep.

"I could tell you horror stories," says Jaya Agrawal, president of the American Medical Student Association, which runs a website for residents. Some are terrifying." I was operating after being up for over 36 hours," one writes. "I literally fell asleep standing up and nearly planted my face into the wound."

"Practically every surgical resident I know has fallen asleep at the wheel driving home from work," writes another. "I know of three who have hit parked cars. Another hit a 'Jersey gate' on the New Jersey Expressway, going 105kin/h."

"Your own patients have become the enemy," writes a third, because they are "the one thing that stands between you and a few hours of sleep."

The U.S. controls the hours of pilots and truck drivers. But until such a system is in place for doctors, patients are on their own. If you're worded about the people treating you or a loved one, you should feel free to ask how many hours of sleep they have had and if more rested staffers are available.

Sleep is a funny thing because ______.

A.the longer one sleeps, the less sound sleep he gets

B.the more sleep one gets, the more likely a stroke occurs

C.many people stick to about eight hours of sleep to stay fine

D.many people who sleep six hours a night still feel energetic in the day
